I saw Lindsey @ Lindsey Reads write a post on TV Shows to binge-watch this winter and I got some inspiration to write a similar post here.
I haven’t marathoned a show in a while. I get restless, feeling like I should be doing something productive with my time, plus my attention span isn’t what it used to be. However, there are some shows that are so addicting I just HAVE to watch multiple episodes in one sitting or can’t wait to tune in for the next episode.
I’ll be including shows I’ve seen in the past, watching now, and want to marathon this winter. So this is basically binge-worthy TV shows of the past, present, and future (haha, get it?)

Gilmore Girls
I haven’t talked about Gilmore Girls on the blog in a while. I also haven’t watched it since they revived it on Netflix… two years ago? Anyways, this is one of my favorite TV shows. The first time I watched it, I watched it by myself and then I watched it again with my mom. It’s a great show I’ll probably never get tired of re-watching every few years.

Good Morning Call
This is a Japanese drama on Netflix. There’s currently two seasons and there’s supposed to be a third season but there’s no release date for it yet and it’s KILLING ME. This is one of those dramas that’s super cheesy at times and the characters make you want to pull all of your hair out but it’s so addicting so you keep watching anyway.

Sherlock
I haven’t watched Sherlock since they released that Christmas episode… was that two years ago?? I have absolutely no track of time but it felt like two years ago. I actually kind of miss Sherlock now that I think about it. I was going to re-watch it about a year ago but I never made it past episode 1. Sherlock has long episodes so it’s like watching a mini movie each time you tune in. Plus the acting is great, the script is brilliant, the villains are amazing, and it’s a lot of fun to watch alone or with someone.

While You Were Sleeping
This show is absolutely AMAZING!!! I’m only a few episodes in, but I’m currently watching it on Hulu and am loving it. This was one of the most talked about K-Dramas of 2017 for good reason. The cinematography is GORGEOUS, the main actors work so well together, and it’s just really good okay. It’s not over-dramatic or extremely cheesy like some dramas can be so I recommend this to anyone that’s thinking about starting a K-Drama.

Brooklyn Nine-Nine
This is a show I used to watch a lot with my family a few years back but we stopped watching for some reason. I’ve been trying to get everyone back on board to watch it but we haven’t yet so I’ll probably start watching it if I want something lighthearted with short episodes. It’s funny too. Really funny. It doesn’t recycle the same old jokes over and over again like a lot of comedy shows. I think everyone needs a little Brooklyn Nine-Nine to lighten up their day.

K-Pop Reality Shows
This one is a bit a) vague and b) different than the other stuff on this list but I had to include it because it’s something I enjoy watching. This includes variety shows, shows like It’s Dangerous Beyond the Blankets, survival shows, and reality shows of groups including Going Seventeen, Real Got7, etc. These are shows that I can just watch and not think about anything. I can forget everything bad going on in life and they’re super entertaining and hilarious.

Baking Competition Shows
These are a MUST. Bonus points if they’re holiday-themed. Cooking shows are fun but there’s something about baking shows that’s more high-stakes and entertaining to watch. A downside of watching too many baking shows is wanting to eat all of the sweets.

Reply Series (1988, 1994, 1997)
The Reply series is a series of three dramas that take place in three different years. The fun thing about this is that there are oftentimes cameos from characters in one of the series in another so you’re able to see what those characters are up to a few years later. I’ve only seen the 1997 one, but Netflix has 1994 that I plan on watching soon. These shows are about family and growing up.

Doctor Who
I have to admit that I sometimes got sooooo bored watching Doctor Who and I never finished it so I’m super behind but it’s got great Christmas episodes. I’d go back solely to watch those every year if I had anywhere to watch it haha.

The Fosters
About a month or two ago me and my mom started watching this on Netflix. This show follows a Lesbian couple raising foster kids. It’s such a wholesome show but it also deals with a lot of topics so it’s definitely not for the lighthearted.

Shows I’ll Be Watching This Winter
- K-Dramas – I say K-Dramas in general because there’s multiple I’m in the middle of right now including While You Were Sleeping, Memories of the Alhambra, and My Only Love Song.
- Brooklyn Nine-Nine (maybe?) – The only reason I haven’t started watching this again on my own is because I don’t know if my family is actually going to watch it together or not.
- Idol Producer – This is a Chinese survival show. It’s similar to Produce 101 if you’re familiar with that. Basically, 100 trainees compete and the top 9 form a new boy group. The episodes are long so I’m not very far in yet but it’s great.
- Anime? – I love K-Dramas but I don’t really watch anime. However, lately I’ve been wanting to start watching anime more so if you have any rec’s for good anime to watch in the winter (besides Yuri on Ice cause that’s not on Netflix) hit me up.

I loved putting this post together! I want to know what you watch during the winter time or what you’re watching now. Let me know!

SO MANY GREAT SHOWS! While You Were Sleeping is one of my all time favorite kdramas, and of course Gilmore Girls and SHerlock are awesome! And OMG there will be a third season of Good Morning Call? I CAN’T WAIT! I also really want to watch Memories of the Alhambra, but I’m waiting until all episodes are out so I can binge 🙂

Yup it’s been confirmed for a third season with all of the original cast. Just no release date yet 😦 Memories is SO GOOD OMG – all episodes should be out on the 20th for you 🙂

Oh I haven’t heard of While You Were Sleeping, but I’ll have to check it out! I tend to go on K-drama binges, and then not watch any for a few months (they are so addictive, like the Sims haha).
It’s probably not as funny as the full reality shows, but one thing I’ve been watching on YouTube is Hello Counsellor- have you heard of it? It’s a Korean show where people come in with their problems, and comedians help and give them advice. Some of the stories are really heartfelt, but some are just cringey (but funny)! I’m hooked haha

Yeah I do the same. I hadn’t watched any for months and now I’m addicted again haha. Yeah I’ve heard of Hello Counsellor. I haven’t watched any yet but I’ve been planning to 🙂

Love the suggestions! I’m hoping to start Brooklyn Nine-Nine and Gilmore Girls next year and Sherlock is awesome ❤ Except for the last season! I have mixed feelings about it!

This was such a great list, Savannah!
I have to admit I tried watching Gilmore Girls earlier this year, but for some reason, I stopped halfway through Season 1. I guess I just wasn’t in the right mood for it, but I genuinely enjoyed the dialogues & the characters. Also, it is more of a character-driven show in the sense that there isn’t much plot, so I assume you have to watch it when you’re in the mood for something slow-paced.
I really want to back in watching Korean dramas. I believe the last one I watched was Andante, earlier this year (thanks to EXO’s Kai, hahah), and prior to that, was probably Cinderella and the Four Knights. I’m incredibly behind, and I’m lost in the midst of all the new releases. Is there any specific one you’d recommend for someone who wants to hop back in the world of K-dramas? I plan on watching When You Were Sleeping anyway, because I’ve seen so much buzz around this one, but I don’t know if it would be the perfect for a re-start.
Thanks for the recommendations anyway!

Yeah Gilmore Girls is definitely a character-driven show. More stuff happens in season 2-onwards but you should definitely try it out when you’re more in the mood for something like that. Ohhhh since you watched Andante for Kai I think you might like Memories of the Alhambra. Chanyeol stars in it 😀 While You Were Sleeping is definitely a must-watch it’s really addicting! I just got back into watching K-Dramas so those are my only suggestions, though there is one airing right now called Encounter starring Song Hye-Kyo from Descendants of the Sun and I’ve heard great things about it.

I’ve watched a couple episodes here and there and the entire revival already, but I never watched everything from beginning to end so… it’s like a first watch I’d say 😀
