I will be discussing more songs that I used to hate but adore now! If you missed the first post in this new series of posts, you can read it here. The first post did really well and people on Instagram wanted another one so here we are.
‘In My Feelings’ – Drake
i’m probably gonna get attacked for this one haha
My First Thoughts – This song is all over the place. There seems to be no solid beat that I can identify and it just… I don’t know. Doesn’t do anything for me. The song seemed to never end and all I wanted was for it to end.
My Thoughts Now – I still don’t particularly love it, but I won’t usually skip it if it comes on the radio. I haven’t seen the video but I do know that J-Hope from BTS was at the end because this song influenced some sort of dancing challenge and J-Hope did the challenge on Twitter.
‘Scentist’ – Vixx
My First Thoughts: I didn’t quite hate this song when I first heard it, but the release of ‘Eau De Vixx’ was my first comeback as a Starlight (fandom name) so I had high expectations. The song felt too slow and unmemorable for me. I would listen to it and then once the song was over my ears couldn’t remember what it sounded like.
My Thoughts Now: ‘Scentist’ isn’t a song I would go back and listen to, but paired with the dance (ie: N’s gracefulness) I end up liking the song more. I also have mad respect for Vixx. They take chances and truly stand out from the rest of K-Pop as far as their music style and concepts go.
‘Never Be The Same’ – Camila Cabello
My First Thoughts – Well firstly, the little loud noise at the beginning of the song still scares me to this day. Secondly, I absolutely hated the way she sounded when she sang in the high pitched voice. It just… it sounded like she was trying too hard? I don’t know. I just didn’t like this song.
My Thoughts Now: I started tapping my foot to this song after roughly a dozen listens (the radio replays her songs way too often) and the song would get stuck in my head and I’d start humming it to myself. I like it almost as much as ‘Havana’ now.
‘Ko Ko Bop’ – EXO
My First Thoughts – This song annoyed me so much!! I don’t know why. I think it was the beat (especially the beat drop) and just the overall sound of it. It was also contributed by the awful things SM (their company) did to Kai and Baekyun’s hair. Dreads and a red mullet with highlights?? Really?? I hope whoever did that to them was fired haha. They did great with Chanyeol and Xiumin though.
My Thoughts Now: ‘Ko Ko Bop’ is one of my most replayed EXO songs. It’s chill but also hypes you up at the same time. It’s great and the music video is really fun and colorful. I still don’t like the beat drop, but oh well.
‘Youngblood’ – 5 Seconds of Summer
My First Thoughts: If I’m being completely honest, I didn’t like this song when I first heard it because I have this thing with 5SOS where I just… don’t like them as people? Just from things I’ve heard they’ve done and the way I’ve seen them act. The song itself wasn’t that bad but it also didn’t seem unique when I first heard it.
My Thoughts Now: I honestly got kind of obsessed with this song and I don’t know why?? It doesn’t have the typical ‘boy band’ sound you’d expect. It’s more of a Coldplay or… Maroon 5, you know. That genre, whatever you call it. I also want to point out that when I got the link for this video just now it looked like a really cool video that I’m gonna have to watch (which i don’t do unless it’s kpop).
‘Cheer Up’ – Twice
My First Thoughts: I haven’t liked most Twice songs the first time I hear them. They’re very bubble-gum pop and for me, their songs don’t quite sound the same but they have the same underlining sound to them, if that makes sense. So when I heard this song for the first time, it just made me think of their other songs such as ‘Likey’ or ‘TT’.
My Thoughts Now: This song made it on my workout playlist (can you tell why? xD) and I guess it’s a guilty pleasure? I enjoy it but wouldn’t listen to it all of the time. It’s fun and it makes my workout more interesting and fun.
‘Stressed Out’ – twenty one pilots
My First Thoughts: I just did not understand this song at all when I first heard it. Honestly, I still don’t, but I think that’s kind of the point of most tøp songs. I can’t quite pinpoint why I didn’t like this song, but I just didn’t for a while.
My Thoughts Now: I don’t find myself listening to this song often, just when it comes on the radio, but it’s a great song that I enjoy a lot more now than the first few times I heard it. My friend has been trying to get me into their music haha. They do have good stuff but I don’t really know if it’s my style.
‘Starry Night’ – Mamamoo
My First Thoughts: I thought this song was interesting, but I also always skipped it when it came on YouTube playlists, but after the third or fourth time, I listened to the entire song and didn’t hate it as much anymore.
My Thoughts Now: This song got me into Mamamoo. I wanted to know what their other songs sounded like after I listened to this one. Their other songs are wonderful as well. All of the members have such great vocals, I’m honestly still in shock.
‘Him & I’ – Halsey & G-Easy
My First Thoughts: Like I said on my last post, Halsey songs are a hit or miss for me. I usually don’t like them when I listen to them for the first time but sometimes they’ll grow on me and become favorites. This song annoyed me, still kinda does sometimes just because it was played on the radio all of the time and my parents played it a lot too.
My Thoughts Now: I think it’s a good song. The way Haley and G-Easy work together is nice and their voices compliment each other in this song. I almost added it to one of my playlists but never did.
‘Bboom Bboom’ – Momoland
My First Thoughts – I heard snippets of this song from random videos on YouTube because I guess everyone was obsessed with it but I didn’t like the sound of it at all. It seemed mediocre and bleh… until I listened to the entire song.
My Thoughts Now: I actually learned the choreography to this dance! I only do that if I a) really love the choreography and b) really love the song. Unfortunately, the group’s other song is basically a copy-cat of this song *cough* but I hope they come out with something different for their next comeback because I don’t want them to be a one-hit wonder.
Have you listened to any of these songs? Do you love or hate any of them? What are some songs you used to hate but love now? Let me know!

Ahh I love Youngblood! I can’t help but dance to it, same with In My Feelings (even though I know literally known of the lyrics besides the now iconic first lines.) I’m not a huge Camila fan, mostly because of her voice as mean as that sounds, but it does sound like she’s trying too hard and it’s just whiney. But I always end up singing along to her songs so I know somewhere inside of me, I’m a fan. Twenty One Pilots is one of my all time favorite bands. I love that their songs are different but meaningful, especially with Stressed Out because it’s about growing up and just plain being stressed about becoming an adult and not being ready hahaha. Awesome post Savannah!! This would be an awesome series to continue with books/movies and such!

Youngblood always has me grooving along to it hahaha. In My Feelings is a bit overplayed but it’s also kinda hard to resist sometimes. Yeah it does sound like she’s trying too hard sometimes – not that her songs aren’t good though! Twenty One Pilots is a group that I like but I haven’t gotten into. My friend showed me a lot of their songs and I like them but I see myself listening to them every once in a while and not all of the time. Thank you, I’m so happy you liked the post! ooooh that’s a great idea!

Love VIXX! I wasn’t such a huge fan of them at first, but then I heard Voodoo, fell in love, proceeded to listen to everything else with the MVs and loved the group even more.

Yay a fellow Vixx fan!! I don’t remember when I fell in love with them as a group, but I think it might’ve been Shangri-La 🙂 They have some of the best music videos because of their concepts and their songs sound really unique to me.

Ahhh Starlights are so rare hello rare creature 😀 I found the whole album a bit meh at the first listen as well, but then fell in love with it as I listened to the songs more. Silence would have to be my favorite off of the album, what about you?

I love ‘Never Be the Same’, it definitely is a great song. But as for ‘In my Feelings, it’s been ruined and overplayed for me by the challenge, and just the song being played everywhere. I’ll listen to it, I’ll like it, but it’s been played so much that I really can’t appreciate it as much as I should. Great post!!

A lot of Drake songs I enjoy, but then they’re played too often on the radio and I end up hating them… Never Be the Same is great though!

I love Youngblood! That type of pop-rock (is that the genre) is exactly up on my alley. I still don’t like Cheer Up and Ko Ko Bop though, but it’s fun seeing male idols challenge each other on Cheer Up choreography! xD Tbh, I generally don’t like Twice songs because they are so sweet. I think my favorite is Likey but it took me several tries.

Oh yeah pop-rock!! I think that’s the genre I was trying to think of. Pop-rock is great 🙂 Haha it’s always great seeing male idols dancing to girl group songs, especially Cheer Up (it’s a really fun choreo). Likey might have to be one of my least favorites from Twice? I think What is Love is my favorite Twice title track song.

I love Youngblood! But I loved Youngblood from the very first time I heart it, though I’m 100% convinced this is actually a song about a vampire.
Drake songs are weird for me? I liked In my Feelings and God’s Plan when I first heard it, but after I heard it several times, I just CAN’T stand Drake anymore. Possibly because I worked at the Y all summer and we literally listened to Drake and Cardi B on repeat all day.

HAHAHA that’d be awesome if it was a song about a vampire. Oh wow Drake and Cardi B all day? I don’t know if I could stand that lol that’s too much. I feel the same about Drake songs. I mean, they’re good, but they’re also SUPER hyped.

DNA by BTS was the one for me. But the more I listened to it the more I loved it

I was going to add DNA, but it’s still a BTS song I don’t love that much. Mainly because I just heard it a lot everywhere when they were in America and such.

Yes when you hear a song too much you lose that liking feeling. But since I am in India well apart from some of our school performances, I dont hear it much often
