September Monthly Wrap-Up // school stressing & not reading much

Wow. It’s already October. I just – I seriously can’t believe we’re in the last three months of 2018. This is absolutely insane! I feel like it should still be May or June. Anyway, hope you like the wrap-up 🙂

Books Read:

Crazy Rich Asians by Kevin Kwan // 4.5 Stars. I adored this book. It was crazy, it was fun, it filled the K-Drama void in my heart. I really need to see the movie.

The Benefits of Being An Octopus by Ann Braden // 5 Stars. Middle Grade but tackles some tough topics. I adored this one.

Ms. Marvel // 4 Stars. I really liked this. It wasn’t amazing but it was pretty good and I liked the diversity.

October TBR:

Hearts Unbroken by Cynthia Leitich Smith //  i’m about 5% through this book. it has a native american protagonist so i hope it ends up being good.

Perfect Harmony by Emily Albright // i could have finished this before the end of the month but i was too lazy to read the last 20% so i’ll have it finished within the next few days.

The Last Wish of Sasha Cade by Cheyanne Young // i think this comes out in october??anyway, it was on my tbr for last month but that obviously didn’t end up happening so its here again.

Siddhartha by Hermann Hesse // for school. plan on finishing it tonight. it’s really short just takes a lot of my patience.

Frankenstein by Mary Shelley // last year i didn’t end up reading this so i want to try and read it this year as my halloween read.

Most Popular Post:

My post on songs I hated at first but love now got the most love this month! I’m so happy the post did so well and I can’t wait to write a part 2 this coming month 😀

The Blog:

My blog views were still steady like they usually are (thank you ❤ ) and I posted five posts total, two of them book reviews, two related to music, and my first post on skincare! I’m so happy I was able to branch out with my content this month like I’ve been wanting to do for a while now.

I blog-hopped more often in September than I did in August. I read more posts and I tried to comment more. I didn’t write a ton of blog posts, which is totally okay because I just write when I want to or if I feel like it’s been too long haha.

Personal Life:

In September I got more of my school done (but not as much as I hoped to) and visited the Natural History Museum in Washington, DC! It was loads of fun and I would upload pictures for y’all but I’m too lazy at the moment. I also ate from an Arabian food truck and it was soooo good. I hope to go back to DC again so I can see more of the museums and sites.

I also had a rough time as far as my mental health goes. I try and not let it affect me but I was moody a lot and overall I stressed myself out about school a lot. I would say that I had more days in September where I felt tired, stressed, and sad than happy. I’m better now but it was kind of tough. I tried to not let it show, but it’s also not good to keep it all bunched in so I have tried to talk things out with my family.

I also got my own bank account and am starting to write (and get paid!!) for my parent’s Real Estate website. I’ve been writing for their business for a while now but my parents and I agreed on a monthly wage to start me out with which I’m very excited for!

Lastly, I bought tickets for A.C.E! If you don’t know who they are, they’re a K-Pop group and they’re going to Miami so I decided to buy tickets to go and see them. The concert is in December so it’s still a while away but I can’t wait!!

i still can’t believe i’m actually going to see them

Writing:

So I was planning on entering a writing contest where I could get $1,000 if I won. Well… I was lazy and never got further than a paragraph into writing it😂

That’s… basically all for this section. I didn’t write more than a few sentences unless you count school essays.

What I Watched:

Oh wow. I watched a lot of stuff. My family and I finished Lucifer so now we’re all caught up with that. My mom, sister, and I have been watching the recent seasons of America’s Next Top Model and Project Runway. My sister and I used to watch these shows together when we were younger so it’s a lot of fun to watch them again now.

Movie-wise, I can’t remember what I watched at all haha. On my own I did start watching Kim’s Convenience after my mom told me about it. I’m not very far but it’s pretty good and the few Korean words they say, I end up knowing which is funny.

What I Listened To:

I started listening to a wide range of new artists this month, for review purposes and just because I always like branching out and finding new stuff. You can listen to my September playlist HERE, where I compiled my favorite songs from the month in a handy playlist.

Most notably, GOT7 made a comeback!! They’re one of my favorite groups and I was kinda disappointed with their last album the first time I heard it (i like it a lot more now) but the first time I heard ‘Present: You’, I was in love. Each member gets their own solo songs which I never knew I needed until now, plus there’s five versions of the title song (original in korean, english, chinese, spanish, and instrumental). Overall, this was an amazing comeback.

I also want to give some attention to NCT Dream. Out of all of the NCT units, Dream is the unit that has music I could never get into. Until now. I haven’t listened to the entire new album yet (let me know if i should do a review of it) but ‘We Go Up’ is sooooo good. I also went back and listened to ‘Go’ and I like it more now than I used to.

What’s Happening in October:

  • EXO comeback!!!!! I think it’s finally going to happen after what seems like a decade!! They released a teaser and there was a rumor that they were filming their music video about a week ago so ahhhhh.
  • Monsta X comeback?? The boys have been teasing stuff lately so I don’t know if a comeback is actually coming or not. BUT. I’m excited nonetheless.
  • Halloween!👻

READ CRAZY RICH ASIANS!!! You won’t regret it *wink*. Given that classics were written primarily by middle aged white dudes in a time where LGBTQ+ wasn’t the ‘norm’ it kinda explains the lack of gay but – yeah I agree.

  2. YES, middlegrade books! The Benefits of Being an Octopus looks so good and something that I need to check out from the library as soon as possible. Your visit to DC sounds so fun! I went there last year over spring break and I very clearly remember going to the natural science museum because there was this exhibit of National Geographic pictures up. It was seriously amazing and one of my favorite parts about the trip. I hope October is a better month for you than September. :))

I think you’d love The Benefits of Being an Octopus, and this is coming from somebody that doesn’t read Middle Grade often. There was a gallery of pictures up when I went too! It was really beautiful. DC as a city seemed nice too, even though it was rainy when I went. Thank you ~ I hope you have a good September too 🙂
