Tagged by Kat @ Life and Other Disasters to do this tag. I feel like it’s been a while since I’ve talked about any of the books I’ve been working on mainly because i haven’t been writing at all #oops so I thought that doing this tag would be fun. Y’all always seem to like it when I talk about my WIPs and who knows, maybe this will push me to start writing again.
As most of you know, I have two main WIPs and although I could make this post about both, I’ll focus solely on These Memories Shall Burn. I currently only have two posts with information about this story so you can read about it here and here.
Rules:
– Thank the person who tagged you
– Credit the creator of this tag (Michelle!) and link back to this post so she can find out allll about your WIPs!
– Try to limit the amount of gifs you use per question – I’d say maybe stick to five or less but I’m not the boss of you
Questions:
Sum up your WIP in four gifs!
#OwnVoices Native American rep, lots of emotions, and California waves. Wow. I think I finally know how to pitch this o.O
But really, this book is such an emotional one and although my character goes through experiences much different than my own, I’d like to think that I placed part of my soul into this book.
like a horcrux
let’s just make this clear. if i make any horcruxes (horcruxi?) in the future it will not be in the form of this book
Time to introduce your main characters!
Naira Leigh
Main character. Native American, suffers from PTSD due to an event in her past. Is adopted and lives with her adoptive parents in Orange County, California. Likes poetry and gymnastics. I love her so much, she’s so near and dear to my heart and I will do everything to protect her.
Evelyn Leigh
Naira’s adoptive mother. Real estate agent. She’s always working so she isn’t around much to care for her daughter. Their relationship is rocky but she loves her.
Franklin Leigh
Naira’s adoptive father. Works even more than his wife. Neurosurgeon. Is oftentimes stressed and focuses on his job over his family.
Eric Jacobson
Naira’s best friend and neighbor, her crush. Captain of lacrosse team and surfer. He’s not a stereotype, okay! He just… fits the mold of one. I swear I’m going to do everything in my power from letting him become a stereotype.
How would your main character react in a crisis?
Naira is not good in a crisis. Like, at all. If she was asked to save a life she would have no idea what to do, but she would of course try her best. Usually when there is a crisis she runs away and hides. Kinda like me haha!
If you were to meet your main characters, how would you react?
And if you were to meet your antagonist?
I mean… there isn’t really an antagonist? There’s your stereotypical ‘mean girl’ and Naira oftentimes has feuds with her mom but besides that there isn’t really any antagonists in my book.
But. There is one or two characters I’d like to punch.
Is there any romance in your WIP? How would you sum it up in gifs?
There actually isn’t!! There is the potential for love from three possible guys in my book but nothing ever happens 🙂 For romance-lovers, my other WIP, We’re All Beautiful, is for you.
How do other characters feel about this ship?
Well… it depends on who you ship. They’ll probably end up crying because it won’t happen for now
How do you want people to react to reading your WIP?
I want to make people smile and laugh and most importantly, cry in pain :)) But really, if one person (besides my immediate family, you don’t count because you’re biased even if you say you aren’t) says that they genuinely like my book, I will be over the moon with happiness, you’ll find me playing catch with the stars.
omg i actually really love that analogy i just made
wait. was that even an analogy?
i think it was a metaphor?
i don’t even know fml

Your WIP sounds awesome! I think we forget how much friendship is just as important as love. I love that one of your main characters is Native American. Can’t wait for you to bust those stereotypes! Great answers!

Thanks for the tag! I don’t usually use gifs, but I loved reading your post 😍 Honestly, my favorite type of bookish post is one where people talk about their own books. Which is, I’m sure, very weird 😂

You’re welcome 🙂 It’s weird, but I do it too!

While I love romance, I also really love books that focus on other things and your WIP sounds absolutely amazing. I am sure I would enjoy both your stories to be honest, so I hope that you do share them with all of us at some point and not just your biased family haha

Thank you ~ I’m happy you think it sounds amazing 😀 Hopefully I start writing again soon so I can share new snippets from my WIPs

I am all here for snippets whenever you find the time. I have been SO terrible at keeping up with my writing for Arcadia, it just means I won’t ever judge if it takes you literal years to get anywhere (although I hope for you that it won’t!)

I’ve been terrible with keeping up reading Arcadia!! I forgot what I’ve read so sometime I’m going to have to go back and start from the beginning and binge. HAHA! Once I finish my algebra course I’ll be taking a week or so off school so I’m hoping to get some writing done then

Oh please, don’t even worry about Arcadia! I honestly did not mention it to guilt trip you into reading it hahaha I just managed to upload all of one chapter per month and it’s been a frustrating process, that’s all.
I am keeping my fingers crossed for your writing!!

Ohhhh I love your GIF chioces and your WIP sounds FANTASTIC, and yay for friendships – I love a good romance, but sometimes it’s amazing to focus on books that just, don’t have romance in them at all 😀 Best of luck for your writing! ❤

Hehe thanks! Yes, romance is good and all but sometimes it’s nice to have a break from it and read a book about friendship 🙂

Ahhh Savannah, your WIP sounds absolutely amazing!
I love love love #OwnVoices narratives, so your “introduction” is putting all kinds of butterflies in my stomach already, and the family dynamic set-up sounds so good. I can’t wait to read how it’ll play out (especially the mother/daughter and father/daughter relationship).

Thank you so much, this means a lot to me ❤ I can't wait to see what I end up doing myself hahaha! I've been surprising myself with my narrative every time I sit down to write xD

Ohh I relate to that! I often end up taking a storyline in a whole other direction than I’d initially intended. And it’s great to see how you seem to be having so much fun with it. ❤

Being surprised by your own book is both the most enjoyable and frustrating thing about being a writer.

Awwe, that sounds interesting…and totally the type of book that I’d pick when i’m in a bookstore.
Alarms were ringing in my head when I got to the part about Naira’s (that is a really pretty name) neighbour/best friend/crush, but then you mentioned there won’t be any romance so it’s all good. Haha Although that trope is still my guilty pleasure sometimes.
Asdfghhjkasdfghjjk this is so fun, I feel like doing it too 😍

Awe thank you, that means so much to hear ❤ I love Naira's name too, and it has a meaning behind it as well xD HAHAHA! Did you really think I'd do that? Don't worry, my other WIP is filled with swoon-worthy romance to fulfill your guilty pleasure taste buds. You definitely should do it!!

It has become my favorite thing as well. I really love reading about the whole process and seeing others endure and succeed in writing what they love.
