Down the TBR Hole #18

I still haven’t gotten back my writing mojo so posts won’t be as common and on-schedule as they should be – but hopefully my reviews will be every Wednesday like I plan them to be.

i have the worst luck – a leaf flew in my eye yesterday as i was running in the park and i was planning on finishing my current read that night but ended up having to brave eye-drop squirting and rest my eye so no reading done *eye roll*

So when I don’t have ideas for other posts, Down the TBR Hole always swoops in to save the day!

If you’re newer here and don’t know what the heck Down the TBR Hole is, it’s a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well that’s going to change!

It works like this:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

Dan and Phil Go Outside by Dan Howell and Phil Lester

I’m still a big fan of them but I haven’t been watching their videos much recently and this book is more of a book for fun  so it doesn’t have to be taking up space on my TBR.

Final Verdict: GO

Malice by John Gwynne

I’m so torn here. All high fantasy looks and sounds the same to me but also this has gotten really good reviews… I don’t know… I think I’ll remove it for now because I don’t see myself reading it anytime soon.

Final Verdict: GO

Hollow City by Ransom Riggs

I honestly didn’t like Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children all that much when I read it back when the movie was about to come out. Unless one of y’all convinces me to finish this series, I don’t think I ever will.

Final Verdict: GO

can we just talk about how well i’m doing today??

The Boys on the Rock by John Fox

A classic in the LGBTQ+ genre – it was originally published in the ’80s, I believe. I’m really interested in reading books with themes that weren’t quite as accepted back then as they are now.

Final Verdict: KEEP

Labyrinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova

I remember wanting to read this SO BADLY when it came out but then the hyped died down. I re-read the synopsis again and discovered that it still interests me.

Final Verdict: KEEP

The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi

No cover yet, but Paris, a rich heir that’s cursed, a heist, and it just sounds so amazing. I haven’t read her other books but I’ve met her and she’s so nice so I do want to try out her books.

Final Verdict: KEEP

Red Rising by Pierce Brown

I’ve heard amazing things about this entire series and it still interests me greatly.

Final Verdict: KEEP

Seeker by Veronica Rossi

I forgot this duology even existed to be completely honest. I’m not even sure I want to finish this – I used to have this thing where I needed to finish every series I started – but recently I’ve realized how stupid I am to do that. I don’t think this will be worth it.

Final Verdict: GO

Short Stories from Hogwarts of Heroism, Hardship and Dangerous Hobbies by J.K. Rowling

I wasn’t sure about this at first but people I trust have been giving it solid reviews and it’s only 71 pages so – I think I’ll keep it.

Final Verdict: KEEP

Attachments by Rainbow Rowell

Honestly this doesn’t sound interesting at all. I just added it because Rowell was considered my favorite author a year or so back, but now knowing about how harmful the rep in Eleanor & Park is and her response to it, I’m happy to take this off.

Final Verdict: GO

Previous TBR #: 491

Books Removed: 5

Books Kept: 5

TBR Total: 486

I removed some books before doing this post so my number of 499 from last time is much higher than it is now! That’s what I call progress.

Have you read any of these books? Do you agree with the choices I made?

  3. I sadly haven’t read the Peculiar Children books yet, so can’t say anything about that, but my sister LOVED them. Also, YAY for keeping Labyrinth Lost, and Red Rising. I’ve read the former, and it was great, and the latter has been on my TBR (and physical shelf) for a while lol. Also, I had no idea Roshani Chokshi had a book coming out next year! So thank you for spreading the word about that! It’s been added to my TBR 😀
