Down the TBR Hole #17

Today is a Down the TBR Hole post because I literally don’t know what else to post and I’m always up for making my TBR hole smaller even if it’s only by a couple of books 🙂

If you’re newer here and don’t know what the heck Down the TBR Hole is, it’s a meme created by Lia @ Lost in a Story.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well that’s going to change!

It works like this:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

My True Love Gave To Me: Twelve Holiday Stories by Stephanie Perkins, etc.

I bought this December last year and was planning on reading it then but due to a reading slump I wasn’t able to get around to it. I plan on reading it this December, though.

Final Verdict: KEEP

stalkingjacktheripper

Stalking Jack the Ripper by Kerri Maniscalco

I still haven’t purchased this book erghhhh I knowwww but I want to read it so bad! And can we just talk about the cover? The covers for this series are all GORGEOUS.

Final Verdict: KEEP

Heirs-of-Power

Heirs of Power by Kay MacLeod

This is an independently-published book – something I’ve been reading more of lately and enjoying – and the cover is soooo pretty and the premise sounds very interesting.

Final Verdict: KEEP

warcross

Warcross by Marie Lu

I NEED TO READ THIS SO BADLY!  I would have read by now if it wasn’t packed up *sigh* but – and this will be the ‘big announcement’ I guess – my family has a rental house that we’ll be moving into mid-March! So I can read it in March!

Final Verdict: KEEP

americangods

American Gods by Neil Gaiman

I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about Neil Gaiman’s books and this book especially sounds good. I originally got it rec’d to me since I like Supernatural so I’ve been keeping my eye out for it at bookstores.

Final Verdict: KEEP

thebluejay

The Blue Jay by Michelle Schlicher

This does still sound like an interesting read but I honestly can’t see myself reading it in the future.

Final Verdict: GO (yay!)

thegolemandthejinni

The Golem and the Jinni by Helene Wecker

I’ve heard so many great things about this book and I just read the synopsis (okay, it was only the first two paragraphs, sue me) and it sounds SO INTERESTING!! I need a copy ASAP.

Final Verdict: KEEP

amancalledove

A Man Called Ove by Fredrik Backman

I think this is supposed to be sad, but it really intrigues me for some reason. And I didn’t know this before but when I was googling the book to get the cover image, I found out that there’s a movie as well!! I didn’t know this!!

Final Verdict: KEEP

the_hearts_we_sold

The Hearts We Sold by Emily Lloyd-Jones

This sounds super interesting (word of the day) and I really don’t have any reason to think I won’t like it.

Final Verdict: KEEP

wayfarer

Wayfarer by Alexandra Bracken

I didn’t enjoy the first book much but this is the second and last book in the duology so I do think that I’ll end up reading it some day. I’ve just been waiting to get it cheap somewhere haha.

Final Verdict: KEEP

Previous TBR #: 500 (yes it increased from the last post)

Books Removed: 1

Books Kept: 9

TBR Total: 499

Hey! I’m still under 500!! I call that progress 😀

  1. Most of these are on my TBR as well, I can’t wait to read Stalking Jack The Ripper, the premise is awesome and those covers are truly gorgeous!! I also own Warcross, I should read that one soon! Great post! I’d probably have to do it soon because my TBR keeps on growing and it’s kind of worrying. ❤

  2. This is a fun way to reduce that TBR, so maybe I should give it a try! Glad you decided to keep Stalking Jack The Ripper, I loved that one! Warcross is still on my TBR as well. And I think I’m not gonna be reading Wayfarer, as I liked but didn’t love Passenger and my enthusiasm for the sequel just kind of disappeared. Maybe some day though… Congrats on a TBR under 500 though 😉

    1. It’s pretty fun to do. Most of the time I still don’t end up making much progress but it’s helped me make some tough decisions I wouldn’t have made before! I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about Stalking Jack the Ripper! Since it’s a duology I decided to just read it so that I could say that I finished xD

  3. Ahh I’ve been meaning to start the Stalking Jack The Ripper series! I also really adore these covers, the newest one looks so pretty and cool! I realllly hope you’ll enjoy Warcross too! It was such a fun read with tons of plot twists that I didn’t see coming (but apparently everyone else did XD). And I love that you only removed one book haha that would probably happen to me if I tried doing these TBR purges again XD

  4. Anything under 500 is definitely progress, yes! And oh my god, so many of these covers are SO PRETTY!! I have a lot of these on my TBR as well, haha 💕
Really interesting meme, by the way! It’s the first time I’ve encountered this one 👀
    Great post!!

  5. My TBR seems to increase between TBR posts too! It will never be under control, but that doesn’t mean I will stop trying haha. I was interested in Warcross too but then someone told me it was a lot like spy kids and I really didn’t like that movie, so I think I am going to pass on it now.

  6. Haha this is so amusing! Still one gone is good! ♥️ A Man Called Ove is quite good… it is a tad slow in the middle but not just sad also heart warming and by a non-English author, so yay! American Gods is odd and quite good if you don’t mind that! I read it a long time ago but it’s one that doesn’t fade. Good choices to keep!

    1. One is better than none! Even if it’ll probably be quadrupled by the next time I do the meme xD Ahhh I love heart warming stories!! Good to hear it’s not ALL sad 🙂 Isn’t the author from somewhere in Europe like Germany or something like that?
