January Monthly Wrap-Up // first full month since i moved & why was january so slow??

JANUARY WAS SO SLOW I don’t understand why??? Last year, the months flew by so quickly 2017 was suddenly over and I looked back not knowing what the heck happened.

But now January is over and now it’s February and then it’ll be March, then April, May, June, July and then I’ll be 18 and – *heavy breathing*. 2018 is going to be a big year. It already has been a big year, with moving and all mid-December.

I keep feeling like there was a big weight lifted off of my shoulders when we moved but now there are new weights slowly weighing me down but I don’t know what those weights are!

Besides that little moment of existential crisis-ness, January was a good month overall. I got a lot of school done (I am so close to finishing it, I can feel it in my gut), I listened to a lot of K-Pop, I finished a lot of K-Dramas, I got to explore a new area – overall I think it was a good month. So now it’s time to wrap it up with a bow and throw it off a cliff 😀

Books Read:

  • Prodigy Prince by Natasha Sapienza // 4 Stars. Fun fantasy adventure, great unique characters.
  • Blind Acceptance by Sandra Pimental // 5 Stars. Amazing recollection of a woman’s fulfilling life.
  • The Epic Crush of Genie Lo by F.C. Yee // 4 Stars. Very fun and made me laugh a lot. Can’t wait to see what the sequel brings.
  • Class of ’59 by John A. Heldt // 4.5 Stars. Interesting time-travelling adventure romance.

I read a good amount this month, I think! Of course not the ideal number but it’s much better than last month!

February TBR:

This seems ambitious for me but I need to catch up on books that have been sent to me for review and reading all of these would put me in a more comfortable spot. Two of the books are physical books (thank god!) and the rest are ebooks but I made sure to pick short books haha! Intellectual right here.

Book Reviews:

I already listed most of the books I reviewed this month above, so here’s the last one that I finished in December but reviewed early January.

A Taxonomy of Love by Rachel Allen// a cute and fluffy coming-of-age love story

TV Shows Reviewed:

Descendants of the Sun // military setting & two of the best couples i’ve ever seen in a kdrama

Most Popular Post:

Well my post from last month – The Expectations of a Book Blogger – hit a record-breaking 81 likes and I’m still dumbfounded because this post didn’t seem special at all when I wrote it but so many people ended up loving it. I’m still getting comments and shares on it. Thank you so much for loving this post ❤

For this month, the most popular post was Favorite Reads of 2017 & Predictions for Favorites of 2018. This is now the fourth most popular post on my blog of all time!

The Blog:

I usually don’t have this section in my wrap-ups but I wanted to thank you for all supporting my blog this month. I could never imagine a better way to start of 2018 than the way you were able to swallow me with love and support. My views reached the second highest ever, I received way more comments than I usually do, and my blog has gained close to 100 followers in only a month.

Followers and views might seem like superficial things but I get an email every single time somebody clicks the ‘follow’ button and every time it brings a smile to my face. Knowing that seeing something on my blog whether it be a post I wrote, or simply the design made somebody think “oh, i might be interested in reading more of what this person is writing” means the world to me.

I’ve also made more of an effort to comment on people’s blogs and read the blogs that I’ve been following for a few months but never really clicked on their posts until now. I have felt a lot more connected to this community this month due to your comments and the comments I’ve made on other blogs. I hope to keep this up in the future.

I also added a new page to my blog called Favorite Blogs. This is where I will be putting my favorite blogs that I read. It’ll constantly be changing so if you’re ever on the lookout for a new blog to follow, check out that page!

Personal Life:

As y’all know, I moved last month. It was a big move and the first move my family has made in years. I’m a bit more settled now and we’ve explored the local area some more. I went to one independent bookstore and a used bookstore and purchased three books (The Secret Life of Bees, The Orphan Master’s Son, and Moxie). I also bought Gunslinger Girl at Wal-Mart.

My mom and I drove up to Tampa one day to look at a house but we decided that we don’t like Tampa much. But I had some good sushi – that’s basically the only good thing that came from that trip haha!

I also tried Jamaican food for the first time. There were plantains and lots of Jerk seasoning haha. We ate outside and a squirrel was on the roof hovering over these two dudes ready to pounce. Nobody got attacked by any squirrels but they roamed around the tables a lot 😀

My mom and I also started taking our four dogs out for walks once a week. They do surprisingly good and they’re absolutely exhausted afterwards, which is exactly what we want so they don’t cause chaos during the day.

Lastly, I’m getting very close to finishing 11th grade. I have three classes – all of which I’m very close to finishing – and then German and the rest of Algebra (I started it but was too lazy to finish it so I have a little over a semester left) and I’m done! I guess the weight on my shoulders now is finishing 12th grade as fast as I can and simultaneously applying to colleges ahhhhh I can’t believe that the time is so quickly approaching. Adulthood is neigh.

What I Watched:

I watched much more TV this month than last month. My mom and I watched One Day At a Time on Netflix (OMG WATCH IT!!!) We were lucky because only a week after we finished the first season, the second season got released. Now we’re going to have to wait another year for season three *sigh* I have a low tolerance for sitcoms so when I say this is good, you better believe me.

me xD

On my own I finished two dramas that I had already started: Descendants of the Sun and Strong Girl Bong-Soon.

The dramas I finished are Dream Knight, Part-Time Idol, and Dramaworld. I also started Playful Kiss but haven’t finished it yet.

What I Listened To:

I didn’t listen to anything in particular but I have started putting together music playlists for different occasions – most notably for working out. I love my workout playlist because it motivates me to go and run so that I have an excuse to listen to it haha.

**i have also been working on playlists for a few books that will be included in a future blog post

  1. January felt slow to me as well. This was the month before starting college again, so a lot of the time I was preparing for college and arrange stuff for the upcoming months, since I plan to do it differently than other people, so a lot has to be done to ask premission for that.
How did the moving go in general? Are you starting to feel at ease in the new town you live now? It is good to hear that you are doing great and that you are spending time with your mom. It is also great to hear that you are almost done with 11th grade. I wish you the best of luck for that! You can do it! And yes, adulthood is horrible XD

Hope everything will turn out fine and you’ll be able to it how you plan to 🙂 It went good, though we’ll be moving again in March haha. German and Algebra are hard hahaha it’s a struggle but I’m managing.

Thank you! I’m excited for it cause we found a nice place 🙂 Ah I wish I was good at Algebra! I’m not very good at constructing sentences very well – I always get the verbs and adjectives mixed up and pronunciation is difficult haha, but I’m managing.

  2. Playful Kiss was like the first Kdrama I ever watched (what feels like many moons ago), and I love it! 🙂 I hope you’re enjoying it!! I also thought Dramaworld was hilarious, and I finished Hello My Twenties Season 2 in January (my new favourite). I find I go on Kdrama binges, then have long breaks in between…. much like the Sims haha! Lovely wrap-up!

  3. I’m like 99.9% sure you mentioned Playful Kiss one time or another because one of the actors from Boys Over Flowers is in it and I STILL HAVE NOT WATCHED IT.

Also, I see you read THE EPIC CRUSH OF GENIE LO AND NOW I AM CURIOUS. Please excuse me while I end this comment early because I want to know what you thought of it in more detail. 😱

YASSSS I love it!!! It reminds me of BoF (mainly due to the actor haha) as well so if you’re having withdrawals than you need to definitely watch it!

You’re actually the blogger that was the reason I made the list in the first place 😀 (and i’m not just saying that – truly, i wanted you to feel appreciated) I still can’t believe I actually have an ARC of it!!

  4. I don’t understand how January felt like 3 years or something. In comparison to the woosh of a year that was 2017, this is highly strange. Anyway, ALL THE LOVE FOR ODAAT!!!!!! ❤ I already have a currently watching planned for that show, because everyone needs to see it, if they haven't already haha

  5. I’m with you on January being slow, it was THE SLOWEST MONTH OF ALL TIMES, I’m just glad it’s over now and hope that the next months will be a bit better, haha. 🙂
So happy that your expectations of a book blogger post did and continues to do so well, it was such a fantastic post, I loved it. And I’m happy about your blogging success, you totally deserve it!! ❤ ❤

  6. Wait girl, you live next to Tampa? I’M LITERALLY FROM TAMPA. (Or at least, a small suburb like 20 min away from it. I always tell people I’m from Tampa, haha)

Also YESS @ Descendants of the Sun! The Song-Song couple is my absolute faveee. ❤

Hope you enjoy Gunslinger Girl! And yay for Jamaican food – I've never tried it but would love to one day!

Orlando 🙂 Song-Song couple is SO CUTEEEE I was barely able to refrain from putting their wedding pics in the post hahaha. Thank you, hope I enjoy it too, it looks like a fun unique read. Jamaican food surprised me. It has a lot of good spice.

  7. I watched Dramaworld too! Super short but really funny. Being active on other people blogs isn’t that easy. I always have difficultrs to keep up with everything and actually leaving something meaningful that can lead to a decent discussion.
Talking about books, I’m so excited for A Girl Like That. I love the cover and the theme is just… it must be good or it will the major 2018 let down

It was a fun drama for sure! Apparently there’s going to be a second season too which I’m excited about. Yes, usually I end up not commenting on anybody’s blog because I don’t have anything to say. I really hope A Girl Like That ends up being good as well *fingers crossed*

  8. Ah, yes, I also felt like January was so slow! I don’t even know why? I can’t tell if it’s becaise I hated what I was posting on my blog or all those snow days I had. Who can really know? 😂

I totally feel you about everything feeling like it’s moving so fast! I’m in eleventh grade as well, and it’s hitting me so hard that I’ll be an adult before the year is over (of course, my birthday is in December), and that I’ll be a senior and then I’ll (hopefully) be going off to college! I’m both excited and terrified. 😅

Awe I loved your posts this month 😀 You’re one of the blogs I started reading more of this month haha. I didn’t know you were in 11th! Excited and terrified are the exact words I’d use to describe how I’m feeling!! I know it just seems a lot scarier than it actually is but I have literally no clue what college I want to go to or anything like that. I just have a vague idea of possible majors.

  9. Those are all high ratings, so I see it was a great month for reading. I’ve been hearing quite some good things about The Upside of Falling Down. Haven’t read it yet but I hope you like it. Good luck!

I seem to read more quality over quantity (thankfully since I’m a slow reader haha) I’ve been hearing some good things as well. Thank you, I hope to like it as well ;D

  10. You thought January was slow?? Omg I think it went by WAY TOO FAST like it literally feels like NYE was yesterday, and the whole month passed by in the blink of an eye! I’m glad to hear that your move went well and you’re finally settling in and got to explore the area!

And yay to reading 4 books this month! I’ve been meaning to pick up Genie Lo because one of my friends absolutely ADORES it, but then there’s two other friends I trust deeply who disliked it and I was confuuuuused XD But I’m glad to hear that you liked it and I’ll definitely pick it up in the future!

I’ve been meaning to watch ODAAT because literally EVERYONE on twitter is raving about it and all the clips I’ve seen so far were amazing! I love how it discusses a variety of issues and I’m pretty sure I’ll become obsessed with the show once I start watching!

I hope February will be a great month for you and good luck with reading all the books on your TBR 🙂

NYE was a million years ago it feels like! It’s been fun exploring the area – there are a lot of interesting things nearby which I like a lot. HAHAHA Genie Lo is definitely a “OMG I LOVE IT” or “ugh” I don’t think there’s much of an in-between. Hope you’ll end up liking it 😀 YASSS YOU MUST WATCH ITTTTT IT IS SO GOOD! Good luck on your reading too 🙂

AWWW their relationship???????? when he tells her, “you’re so cool” in the first episode, I realized their relationship was one of the most amazing to ever occur????? love this post and thank you for inspiring my new obsession ❤ ❤ ❤

THIS COMMENT MADE MY WEEK 😀 I’m so happy you decided to start watching it AND BECAUSE OF ME! Trust me, it gets so much cuter as the series goes on – I don’t know how it’s possible but it does hehe. Thank you for reading, and I’m always here to fangirl over kdramas with you 🙂
