Synopsis:

This is the second Emma Mills book I’ve read. I’m glad to say that I loved it even more than her other book I read, First & Then. 

Something that I remember loving in that book was the way that Mills writes her character interactions. Every character is unique without trying to be different. They’re complex but simple at the same time.

Her dialogue flows very nicely and the humor in this book was witty and fun to read. Although not much was happening, I never got bored.

The protagonist, Claudia, was very humorous and although her point of view wasn’t the most interesting to read from, and she did seem a bit selfish sometimes, those are just minor character flaws and she learned from them by the end of the book.

Something that was probably my favorite aspect of the book was the fact that although there was a cute romance plot, it was not the main focus of the story – rather friendships took reign. I wasn’t expecting that when I went into the book but it was a nice surprise that I enjoyed a lot.

I also loved that one of the main couples in the story was between two girls. One of the girls was a POC, which was nice to see too. The way their relationship was handled was great. I’m not gay myself but I think that their relationship was realistic and handled nicely.

Claudia used to loathe (and was loathed by) Iris, whom everybody sees as mean. But throughout the book they slowly become friends, Iris introducing Claudia to her favorite boy band, TION. Iris becomes one of my favorite characters in the book because she’s so three-dimensional and has so many layers. I would absolutely love a book from her perspective in the future.

The romance aspect – like I said, was in the background – was very well-developed. It was a slow-burn (as in, they didn’t kiss and fall in love within two hours of meeting, thank god!). They got to know each other before realizing they have feelings for one another, something I crave in YA books.

Overall I really enjoyed this book. It was a light fluffy read that made me crave a friendship half as wonderful as the ones written in this book and I thought that the issues it tackled were handled really well. I would recommend it to people looking for a quick read that makes you smile.
