10 Authors Whom I Claim Are Favorites But Haven’t Read All Their Books Yet

Hello everybody! I decided to do my own spin on a post I saw the blogging queen Paper Fury do on her blog about books that she hasn’t read from authors she claims as her favorite. I really loved the idea because I shamefully read about 1-2 books that an author has written and then automatically say “they’re my favorite author!” even if they have about a dozen other books out.

It’s a serious problem.

And now I’m here to show how shamefully often I do this.

I’m actually kind of nervous I don’t know why. I feel like I’m sharing my deepest and darkest secrets. I guess I kind of am.

But y’all are my loyal readers and you won’t abandon me because of something stupid like this.
Right?

These authors aren’t in any particular order because I can’t choose a favorite!

10. Rainbow Rowell

Read Books:

Unread Books:

Kindred Spirits is just a short story, I believe so I wasn’t all that interested in it and then her other books are adult books that I’ve heard some mixed things about. I bet I’ll try them all some day, though, because I love her writing and characters and it’s seriously taking her forever to write her next book I am slowly dying.

9. Rick Riordan

Read Books:

Unread Books:

Ha…ha… there are just a lot of books, okay? These aren’t even all of them! There are the 39 Clues books that he helped write (which I have no interest in reading), and then there are all of the short story collections and crossovers. And then there’s also the graphic novels for the rest of the Percy Jackson books and The Kane Chronicles… and then he has some adult books. It’ll take me a lifetime if I were to read all of his books.

8. Maggie Stiefvater

Read Books:

Unread Books:

I’m interested in reading her Shiver trilogy and The Scorpio Races, but not really any of her other books (except for her upcoming book All The Crooked Saints). She has a few other books too, but I’m not interested in them.

7. Benjamin Alire Saenz

Read:

aristotle_and_dante_discover_the_secrets_of_the_universe_cover

Unread:

I’ve only read his most popular book – Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe – but it’s one of my all-time favorite books! He has another book that he released this year and then a ton of others that aren’t very popular. Some are poetry books and some are novels (not all of them are listed here cause I’m too lazy to search for them). I do want to read all of his books one day, though because I love his writing style!

6. Adam Silvera

Read:

historyisallyouleftme

Unread:

I actually thought he would’ve had more books haha, but (happily) he doesn’t! Now I don’t feel as bad as I did before about only having read one of them. He does have a lot of projects in the works according to Goodreads, though! And on Twitter he keeps on saying how he’s working on both book 4 and 5 on and off. And he has a book coming out in September – They Both Die At the End – which I’m so excited for!

5. Cassandra Clare

Read:

Unread:

I think we can all agree that Cassie Clare pumps out too many books to catch up with haha. She not only has The Infernal Devices trilogy and The Mortal Instruments series but she also has graphic novels and mangas of the series! I don’t think I’ll ever read those cause I honestly don’t see the point in doing that. I also won’t read her Middle Grade series that she co-wrote with Holly Black. Besides that, I do plan on reading all the rest of the books she comes out with in the Shadowhunter world because she has me in her clutches.

4. Susan Dennard

Read:

truthwitch

Unread:

I absolutely love Susan Dennard’s writing style and she also seems like such a nice person so I want to read all of her books. Besides The Witchland series she’s in the middle of writing right now, she also has the Something Strange and Deadly series. I want to read that series, plus they just got new covers (not the ones pictured above)!

3. Marie Lu

Read:

the_young_elites

Unread:

Haha see this is what I’m talking about! I’ve only read one of Marie Lu’s books but I claim her as one of my favorites. She’s got lots of amazing projects and upcoming books so I really need to finish at least one of her trilogies!

2. Marissa Meyer

Read:

Unread:

I love The Lunar Chronicles and I would be done by now if Winter was out in paperback, but it’s not out yet! I also need the two novellas in the series.

1. Becky Albertalli

Read:

upsideofunrequited

Unread:

simon

I want to read Simon vs the Homo Sapiens Agenda SO BAD! It’s becoming a movie and I love the people they cast and I’ve heard this is the better of the two books Albertalli has written so I just need to read it!

Hope y’all enjoyed this post! There are even more authors I could’ve listed here but this post would become way too long haha. Let me know the authors you call your favorites but have shamefully only read a few books of theirs.

By the way, this post took me so long to write.
Appreciate it.
Seriously, my hand hurts.

  1. My main one was Maggie Stiefvater. Until recently I had only read The Raven Cycle, which is one of my favourite series of all time. But last month after reading the post like this over at Paper Fury I decided I needed to change that and make my way through the rest of her work. I recently finished The Wolves of Mercy Falls and it simply made me love her as an author even more! I can’t wait to read more from her.

  2. Omg this is so true! There are so many books that I’ve read by my favorite authors, but there are still so mamy that I haven’t.

  3. This is such a fun idea and I remember really loving Cait’s post on this too! Let’s see…

With Maggie Stiefvater, I feel like if I had discovered her books a few years ago, I would probably be really interested in her Shiver trilogy, but I’ve really outgrown those types of stories, so I’m not really interested in that one, but I do really want to read The Scorpio Races! And obviously her upcoming book. There is no way I am not picking that one up! And then there is the RONAN TRILOGY. I am 100% ready for it. 100%.

You should 100% continue reading the rest of Cassie’s Shadowhunter novels! I have read all of them except the novella bind ups and I love them all! The Infernal Devices is still my favorite so far with The Dark Artifices coming in REAL CLOSE with just two books out so far! And I can’t wait to finally read the novella bind ups once I’ve re-read all of the books leading up to Lady Midnight! 😀

Honestly, the Legend trilogy is SO GOOD. I loved it so, so much when I first read it – but I haven’t read Marie’s other books yet. Double Oops! But I am super stoked for her Batman novel at the beginning of 2018! Even though I know exactly NOTHING about Batman.

    1. OH MY FREAKING GOSH THE RONAN TRILOGY! I am SO ready for that!! My sister read The Scorpio Races and said she really enjoyed it. I can’t wait to read the rest of Clare’s Shadowhunters books! The only thing keeping me from doing it is cause I don’t own them haha. I’m excited for the DC YA books too! They look like they’re supposed to be really good 🙂 Glad you liked the post!

      1. I feel like The Scorpio Races is quite beloved by a good chunk of the people I follow so I have rather high hopes!

Oh yeah, that makes sense! I probably wouldn’t own all of Cassie’s books if it wasn’t for a ridiculously good deal on Amazon for the TMI boxset a couple of years ago! Those books really do add up over time!

  4. I loved this post! If you fell in love with Becky from The Upside of Unrequited, you MUST read Simon! It is even better! (I know that is hard to believe! But it is!)

  5. Rainbow Rowell and Marissa Meyer are also among my favourite authors though I haven’t read all of their books woops. I haven’t read Rainbow Rowell’s adult books either, but Kindred Spirits was a really cute and fun read! Definitely recommend. I still need to read Fairest, Wired Nerves and Heartless – I’m most ashamed about these ones haha.

I love all of Rick Riordan’s books – I’d recommend all of them (well besides the 39 clues (was it 39 I don’t remember and I’m too lazy to scroll up) I haven’t read those either and I’m not planning on it) ALSO READ SIMON VS IT’S THE CUTEST

    1. I’ll have to try out Kindred Spirits sometime! Yeah it was 39 Clues, and I’ve loved all of Riordon’s books and I absolutely can’t wait to get around to Simon

  6. I AM THE SAME! I try to read at least 2 or 3 novels before proclaiming someone my favorite but I haven’t read any of my “favorites” entire book collection. I really want to but both Victoria Schwab and Neal Shusterman have SO MANY novels 😂

  7. Oh yes, PLEASE read Simon Vs! That one is just so precious. ❤ And finish The Lunar Chronicles! SO SO GOOD AGH. And Marie Luuuuuuuuu. *lowkey freaks out* You MUST read the rest of The Young Elites and the Legend trilogy. She's one of my favorite authors (along with Marissa and Rick) and aghaghhagh. <333

    1. I wanted to purchase Simon at Barnes and Noble when I went there but they only had a paperback copy *cries* I want a hardcover… I’ll have to purchase it next time I buy books. I cannot wait to finish TLC and TYE!!

        1. Well I have her other novel The Upside of Unrequited in hardcover so if I bought Simon in paperback they wouldn’t match and it’d bother me a lot

  8. This has me written all over it, I have so many writers I think could be my favourites but I just haven’t read a lot of books by them so how could I say such a thing?? I just need to get to reading them all soon!

    1. I’m so glad I’m not the only one! Sometimes I follow an author on social media and like them as a person but haven’t even read any of their books!

  9. love this post!! I’ve noticed that sometimes even though I love an authors book insanely that doesn’t mean I’ll love his/her newer or older books equally. And there are so many great authors out there – it’s hard to read EVERYTHING 😀

    1. Yeah I completely understand what you’re saying here. I read so many authors but I don’t usually stick with a select few
