Today is Saturday, my book friends, which means it’s time for me to tackle my TBR! Every Saturday I tackle my TBR by taking part in Down the TBR Hole, a weekly meme created by Lia from Lost in a Story. Let’s get started!
And also, before I officially start, sorry about skipping last week’s post. I just didn’t feel like writing it, but here it is now! (Also, I probably won’t have a Writing Prophecies post up this weekend either…)
Very Good Lives: The Fringe Benefits of Failure and the Importance of Imagination by J.K. Rowling
I’ve never read anything like this before (it’s a speech) but it’s a speech given by J.K. Rowling at Harvard about how to overcome failure and how important imagination is. I really want to read it (and it’s only 74 pages!)
Final Verdict: KEEP
Love Letters to the Dead by Ava Dellaira
1) This cover is gorgeous and 2) the main character has a school assignment which is to write a letter to a dead person. Yeah, weird, right? But a cool concept and I’m still interested in it.
Final Verdict: KEEP
Unwind by Neal Shusterman
I was actually thinking of letting this one go, but then I read the synopsis again and some of my friends on Goodreads whom I trust their opinions on books have really enjoyed this one so I’ve changed my mind.
Final Verdict: KEEP
The Darkest Corners by Kara Thomas
This book is supposed to be mysterious and suspenseful and it does sound really interesting. I do own it as well and it’s fairly short so one day I’ll get to it.
Final Verdict: KEEP
The Mysterious Benedict Society by Trenton Lee Stewart
This does sound interesting and I have heard some great things about it, but it’s Middle Grade which I barely ever reach for so I can’t really see myself picking this up in the near future.
Final Verdict: GO
The Hidden Oracle by Rick Riordon
Rick Riordon is one of my favorite authors! However, I haven’t even finished the Percy Jackson series yet (I know! I know! I only have one book left, though!) So this will be going for now until I catch up on his other series and get to this one.
Final Verdict: GO
The Last Star by Rick Yancey
I loved the first book in the series and then hated the second book but I already own this book – which is the last in this series – so I might as well read it.
Final Verdict: KEEP
The Bronze Horseman by Paullina Simons
I’ve heard absolutely nothing but amazing things about this book and it’s historical fiction which I’ve been meaning to start delving into more so there is no way I’m getting rid of this one!
Final Verdict: KEEP
The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet by Becky Chambers
I believe this is a sci-fi book but is also different than a lot of other sci-fi books? I’m not exactly sure but I love the cover and I’ve heard some really great things about it so I’m keeping it.
Final Verdict: KEEP
What We Saw by Aaron Hartzler
I have been conflicted whether I should read this or not because it deals with rape, but also it feels like it would be a really important book to read… Everyone seems to think that it was a really good representation of rape and how it’s dealt with so I think I’ll end up keeping it.
Final Verdict: KEEP
So I only got rid of two books this time, one which I know I’ll be reading some day, but it’s still progress! As always feel free to let me know if you’ve read any of these books or if you plan on reading them!
I feel so bad for saying this because you put it on the keep pile, but I did NOT like Love Letters to the Dead at all. It felt like a genderswapped version of The Perks of Being a Wallflower and I did not like the main character. I hope you’ll enjoy it more than I did.

It’s sad to hear you didn’t enjoy it. Hopefully I’ll end up enjoying it more.

I’d love to do this in a layout like yours…do you do something special to help keep them in those borders? How do you make borders, lol?

I don’t make the borders, it should be in the top bar when you’re writing your posts.

I liked Love Letters to the Dead but I didn’t expect it to deal with such heavy topics as it does. I didn’t like the main character that much but overall it was a pretty good read. I hope you like it!

Good to know that you found it enjoyable! I’m expecting some heavy stuff since she’s writing to a dead famous person who was her dead sister’s favorite.
