Down the TBR Hole #9

Today is Saturday, my book friends, which means it’s time for me to tackle my TBR! Every Saturday I tackle my TBR by taking part in Down the TBR Hole, a weekly meme created by Lia from Lost in a Story. Let’s get started!

Oh and also, the other day I just spontaneously removed 15 books off of my Goodreads TBR! It made me feel so productive. It was just by randomly glancing at books and their ratings. Yes, ratings effect what books I do and do not read.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well that’s going to change!

It works like this:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

If You Follow Me by Malena Watrous

I wasn’t sure about this one until I read the synopsis on Goodreads. This book actually partly takes place in Japan and there are LBGTQ+ themes in it which I didn’t know about! My friend gave this to me a while back and I still haven’t read it, but it’s bumped up on my TBR now that I know what it’s about more.

Final Verdict: KEEP

Fairest_Cover

Fairest by Gail Carson Levine

I actually unhauled this book a few months back… why is this still on my TBR?

Final Verdict: GO

shadow

Shadow by Jenny Moss

I already unhauled this as well, so this one is an easy choice.

Final Verdict: GO

mysisterrosa

My Sister Rosa by Justine Larbalestier

This one sounds so intriguing. So this book is about a girl and her younger sister is basically a psychopath. That’s all I know of it but Catriona from Little Book Owl on YouTube loves this book and it sounds really dark and creepy.

Final Verdict: KEEP

daughterofsmokeandbone

Daughter of Smoke and Bone by Laini Taylor

I think this has to do with angels and demons? Anyway there used to be so much buzz about this series – and there still is – and I do own the book and I do actually like this cover even though there’s a face on it. I do really want to read it still.

Final Verdict: KEEP

the_forbidden_wish

The Forbidden Wish by Jessica Khoury

If I’m not mistaken this is an Aladdin retelling, which already sells me, but I’m pretty sure the big blue genie voiced by Robin Williams (RIP) that we all know and love is replaced by a girl? I’m not 100% sure but I’ve heard some great things about it and the cover is stunning.

Final Verdict: KEEP

toheartheoceansigh

To Hear the Ocean Sigh by Bryant A. Loney

I completely forgot how I came across this book but I did and I completely forgot what it was about but it does sound mysterious and interesting and on a review I read on Goodreads apparently the author wrote the first draft for this book when he was only 14!

Final Verdict: KEEP

LIMARLEYBOOK.JPG_L123155024.JPG

Marley and Me: Life and Love With the World’s Worst Dog by John Grogan

Only three movies I’ve seen in my entire life had made me cry. I’ve watched Marley & Me twice and both times I have bawled like a baby. I own the book but just haven’t read it yet and Marley just reminds me so much of my own dog.

Final Verdict: KEEP

the_king_slayer

The King Slayer by Virginia Boeker

This is the second book in a duology and I’ve read and fairly enjoyed the first one and I own this one but just haven’t read it yet.

Final Verdict: KEEP

these_shallow_graves

These Shallow Graves by Jennifer Donnelly

I’m still really interested in this one and I own it. It’s about this girl (who’s rich, I believe) and her father commits suicide but she thinks that he was actually murdered and tries to figure out who killed him.

Final Verdict: KEEP

I only got rid of 2 this time which is kind of disappointing but that’s okay since I did get rid of 15 the other day just on a whim. As always I would love to hear if any of y’all have read any of these books as well as if you enjoyed them or not!

I also reached 250 followers on this blog the other day! Thank you all so much!

lots-of-love

  1. I don’t remember which one of Gail Carson Levine’s retellings I didn’t like that much… It might’ve been Fairest??? IDK. NO IT WAS EVER KEEP FAIREST IT WAS GOOD. But that was when I was little… XD

Omg These Shallow Graves is amazing! I love it so much. And Daughter of Smoke and Bone was okay… I never finished the last book and don’t plan to.

    1. I’ve tried reading Fairest about three times and couldn’t get past about 30-50 pages. Plus I already got rid of the physical book itself :/ Great to hear that about These Shallow Graves!
