It’s Wednesday! This means it’s time for Top 5 Wednesday, a weekly meme created by Lainey @ Ginger Reads Lainey and now hosted by Sam @ Thoughts on Tomes. You can check out and join the Goodreads group here.
I am so very excited for this week’s topic because it’s my top 5 favorite minor characters! There are so many characters I can choose for this so I have no idea how I’ll narrow it down to just five. And as always, these aren’t in any particular order.
5. Fred Weasley from Harry Potter
Y’all are probably like “but what about George?” Well, my friends, they’re not one person! I hate when people say their favorite character is Fred and George. They’re two different people! Even though they’re twins and are (or shall I say were…) joint at the hip that doesn’t make them the same person! Now, little rant aside, I’ve always had a liking to Fred more than George for some reason. I’m still not over what Rowling did to him… still not over it.
4. Ahren Schreave from The Selection
Ahren is Eadlyn’s twin brother and although he’s the brother of the main character he didn’t get as much page time as I would’ve liked. When Eadlyn annoyed me (which was pretty much 99.9% of the time) Ahren came along and put her in her place. I would read an entire series surrounding him if I’m being honest. Maybe I like him so much because he reminds me of his father Prince Maxon – wait King Maxon.
3. Noah Czerny from The Raven Cycle
You’re probably whining right now because Noah technically isn’t a minor character, but he certainly doesn’t show up as often as I would’ve liked him to. I know it’s because of what he is, but still. I needed more Noah in this series.
2. Finnick Odair from The Hunger Games
I’m still not over this one as well. Finnick is a fan favorite but he wasn’t a huge character except for in the second book when he was introduced. I loved his character, though. I don’t remember exactly why because it’s been so long since I read the books but I do remember loving his scenes.
1. Brion from Falling Kingdoms
Falling Kingdoms was a very recent read of mine (3.5 stars if you’re wondering) and like Game of Thrones there are a lot of characters to keep track of. I liked Brion because he kept Jonas level-headed and sensible when he wasn’t thinking of the consequences of his actions. I can’t wait to read the next book to see where things go.
So those were my favorite minor characters! I bet there are a ton more but that’s all I could think of at the moment. Let me know what your favorite minor characters are!
Did you see where JK Rowling apologized for what she did to Fred? 😭 also, I LOVE Finnik, especially in the movies

Oh and when I read Ahren Shreeve I was like Who? And then laughed because I listened to these on Audio book and never saw the spelling 🙂 he’s another really good pick.

Rowling is still not forgiven for my heartbroken heart. They did do really good with Finnick in the movies! Haha I forgot what his name was and had to look it up

I always preferred Fred Weasley too! I have no idea why, but he was my favourite twin. Finnick was on my list as well, such a great character (who is totally living happily ever after with Annie right now, I live in denial-land).

High five for Fred! Yes, Finnick is definitely living happy with Annie right now *sobs in corner*

I feel like Finnik should have been the reason for every heart break song sang by the Backstreet boys. Look, Finnik was bae, I don’t understand why he had to go but I was not happy about it. I was waiting for Gale to be done with tbh.

Yes! Gale should’ve died instead

I’m reading The Raven Boys right now! And yes Noah! He’s surprisingly often not present in the book. Right now my favourite raven boy is Adam though 😊

Finnick is the best, I’ve seen him on so many lists today! He deserves all that recognition!!

I feel the same way about Weasley twins, but I also feel really guilty discussing them as singular beings instead of a unit. I feel like they are, or were, a unit and that’s part of what makes what happened to them so sad in the end. I also agree the Fred is the far superior twin.

Yeah they are a unit and that’s one of the reasons why I’m still so emotional about them now because of what happened. Haha I think that when a lot of people are asked about whether they like Fred or George more they usually choose Fred
