Today is Saturday, my book friends, which means it’s time for me to tackle my TBR! Every Saturday I tackle my TBR by taking part in Down the TBR Hole, a weekly meme created by Lia from Lost in a Story. Let’s get started!
Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well that’s going to change!
It works like this:
- Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
- Order on ascending date added.
- Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
- Read the synopses of the books
- Decide: keep it or should it go?
The Name of the Wind by Patrick Rothfuss
There’s no way this is going! Plus I own it. I will get to it eventually, it’ll just take me a while since it’s high fantasy and I haven’t gotten into that genre quite yet.
Final Verdict: KEEP
Heartless by Marissa Meyer
I am a huge fan of The Lunar Chronicles by her and this is a retelling of the Red Queen from Alice in Wonderland so I’m really interested in reading it. Plus I’ve heard great things about it as well.
Final Verdict: KEEP
A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir
I have been anticipating reading this since it’s release in (November?) of last year and I purchased it right when it was released but I haven’t gotten to reading it yet. I’m planning on reading it sometime this summer.
Final Verdict: KEEP
Glass Sword by Victoria Aveyard
I don’t even know why this is on here. I didn’t even really like the first book and I’ve heard even worse things about the rest of this series. Nope, not keeping this on here.
Final Verdict: GO
Shatter Me by Tahereh Mafi
I really want to read this series since Whitney from WhittyNovels on YouTube loves this series so much and since the author just recently released that she will be coming out with three more books in this series starting next year. I want to read this entire series before then and get all caught up.
Final Verdict: KEEP
The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
I know that a lot of people love this series and it’s such a beloved series, but I honestly don’t have all that much interest in reading it anymore. I might end up reading it some day but for now, I don’t think I’ll read it for a while.
Final Verdict: GO
Darkness Brutal by Rachel A. Marks
Literally the only reason this is on my TBR is because I had won this book in a Goodreads giveaway. But it does sound interesting! I will read it sometime because I am still interested in it.
Final Verdict: KEEP
The Girl with Dragon Tattoo by Stieg Larsson
I own the first book in this series and the second book. I really want to read it some day because I’ve heard such amazing things about it but I don’t want to eat it until I’m a bit older since it’s in the adult genre.
Final Verdict: KEEP
The Wishing Spell by Chris Colfer
Even though this is a middle grade series I do want to read it because it has fairy tale elements and I’ve heard some good things about it. Plus I already own it.
Final Verdict: KEEP
School of Fear by Gitty Daneshvari
I don’t even know why this is still on my TBR, I unhauled this book a few months ago…
Final Verdict: GO
So that was it for this week’s Down the TBR Hole! I got rid of 3 books, which is better than last week’s 2 books so I’m happy about that. Let me know if you’ve read any of the books I mentioned on this list!
I think you’ve made a bold choice in letting go of Lewis! 😛 I’m not really a fan but if I hadn’t read them already, I would have kept them on my TBR out of a sense of “I really should read those books…”. But that’s how you end up with a TBR way out of hand, haha, so I think you’ve made a good call since you’re not that interested anymore.

Haha yeah I kept them on my TBR for so long because I felt like I had to.

And with such a popular book, you could always re-add it if it one day catches your interest. I should really do that with some of the ‘classics’ I’ve left on my list for too long…

Yeah there’s always the chance that I’ll pick it up in the future but for now it’s just not something I can see myself reading soon.

Eeep, getting rid of books is SO HARD. I did a bit of a goodreads list TBR clean out the other day! I was so proud of me…and then promptly added a ton of new releases so…not so proud of me.😂 I really loved The Name of the Wind too so I’m glad you kept it on!

Haha I’m guilty of doing that exact same thing. I clean out my TBR a bit but then I see ALL OF THESE WONDERFUL BOOKS that I just feel the need to add to my TBR and then I’m back where I started

Love these! Keep up the good work!

Ahh, BIG YES to Shatter Me!!! And Whitney is literally my twin – whenever she talks about the books I’m like “YES, my thoughts exactly!” 😛
I bought Red Queen years ago but I don’t think I’m interested in reading that one anymore so I’ll probably remove it from my TBR and give the book away!

Red Queen was a disappointment for me. I’m happy you like Whitney so much as well! She’s one of my favorite BookTubers

Yay for ditching Glass Sword, I read it but disliked it. Which says a lot since I loved Red Queen. I’m not going to continue the series I think but that cliffhanger did leave me curious to the rest of the story.

I didn’t even like Red Queen so I’m happy I made the right judgement.

Sweetie, Give me The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe series. I am a big C.S. Lewis fan and love this series. I will read them for you. I know you do not want to leave a book unread!
