Down the TBR Hole #6

Today is Saturday, my book friends, which means it’s time for me to tackle my TBR! Every Saturday I tackle my TBR by taking part in Down the TBR Hole, a weekly meme created by Lia from Lost in a Story. Let’s get started!

Also, last week I couldn’t decide whether I should keep the Once Upon a Time book or not and I decided to keep it.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well that’s going to change!

It works like this:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

vampireacademyVampire Academy by Richelle Mead

I actually decided a long time ago that I didn’t want to read this series. It just doesn’t interest me like it once did. I don’t know why I never removed it from my to-read list. Plus, let’s be honest, the covers suck (no pun intended).

Final Verdict: GO

The Princess Bride by William Goldman

I haven’t seen the movie *gasp* but it does sound interesting and I do own it and I do still want to read it, it just hasn’t happened yet.

Final Verdict: KEEP

Shiver by Maggie Stiefvater

Heck yeah, I’m keeping this! If this series is half as good as The Raven Cycle, then it’s guaranteed to be amazing!

Final Verdict: KEEP

The Lost Hero by Rick Riordon

I have one book left in the Percy Jackson series and then I’ll read this series! I will get to it!

Final Verdict: KEEP

Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare

This is the next Cassandra Clare book I want to read! I just don’t own it yet! I really need to purchase the entire Infernal Devices trilogy so I can read it, especially since she has her new series with the second book coming out later this month.

Final Verdict: KEEP

The Lightning Thief Graphic Novel by Rick Riordon

Ehh… If I find it somewhere cheap one day I’ll probably buy it and read it, but I don’t really see the point of having it on my TBR when I’ve already read the actual book. Maybe if I want to do a quick re-read some day I’ll pick this up.

Final Verdict: GO

Witch and Wizard by James Patterson

I was actually really excited about this series when I bought it on eBay for cheap, but after reading some reviews on Goodreads I’m not so sure about this one…

Final Verdict: I don’t know

Looking for Alaska by John Green

Y’know, John Green books don’t really excite me. But I do plan on reading this and The Fault in Our Stars one day because they’re known to be his best books.

Final Verdict: KEEP

The Complete Sherlock Holmes Volume 1 by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle

How could I possibly get rid of this? Sherlock is one of my favorite TV shows and I can’t possibly say that I’m a Sherlock Holmes fan without having read the books. I need to read them one day! I will!

Final Verdict: KEEP

This Monstrous Thing by Mackenzi Lee

I plan on reading both Frankenstein and then this book in October. I’m sorry but if I read a book like this I need to read it during the season and time of year that makes most sense if you get what I’m saying.

Final Verdict: KEEP

That’s all for this week’s Down the TBR Hole! I only got rid of two books and am still unsure about one, so it wasn’t all that much progress but I still want to read a lot of these books! Let me know if I should keep Witch and Wizard or not! And also let me know if you’ve read any of these books as well as your thoughts on them!

  1. I took Vampire Academy off my TBR years ago, but last year someone convinced me to read it (I think it was part of a reading challenge) and it was so different from what I expected. But I totally understand a book not interesting you anymore. I’ve unhauled a few for that reason recently.

Witch & Wizard was mediocre in my opinion, and I unhauled it as soon as I finished and haven’t picked up anything else by Patterson. (As far as I know, he does use ghostwriters.)

  2. I’ve never read a James Patterson book so I don’t know…I honestly think he has ghostwriters writing for him as his name is on everything AND sometimes there is another name listed, so I kinda refuse to read his stuff on principle.
But it’s your call: that’s my two cents and I think you’re doing great! I love seeing you hack through your TBR and I need to do it. Do you go through it as you post, or do you do it first and then post about it? I really want to give this a try…

  3. PJO IS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SERIES EVEEEEEER. The Heroes of Olympus series was okay — nothing will compare to the original though. Also I just finished Shiver yesterday. I’m super invested in Grace and Sam’s relationship lol, even though it was a little unrealistic. (*SPOILERY rant* They fall in love over six years while Grace is human and Sam is a wolf??? Then they kiss on like the second day they meet or whatever???) But I still like it lol. And everyone LOVES TFIOS??? I though it was okay. (Pun not intended.)

    1. Hahaha I love Shiver and I read the entire series when I was 14 or something, silly me, I didn’t know about instalove back then. Their relationship is amazing though! However, I’m scared that if I reread it now it won’t be as amazing.
