Down the TBR Hole #5

Happy Saturday everyone! Since it’s Saturday, you know what that means! (Unless your new, if you’re new don’t worry I’ll explain everything). Every Saturday I tackle my TBR by taking part in Down the TBR Hole, a weekly meme created by Lia from Lost in a Story.

Most of you probably know this feeling, your Goodreads TBR pile keeps growing and growing and it seems like there is no light at the end of the tunnel. You keep adding, but you add more than you actually read. And then when you’re scrolling through your list, you realize that you have no idea what half the books are about and why you added them. Well that’s going to change!

It works like this:

  • Go to your Goodreads to-read shelf.
  • Order on ascending date added.
  • Take the first 5 (or 10 if you’re feeling adventurous) books. Of course if you do this weekly, you start where you left off the last time.
  • Read the synopses of the books
  • Decide: keep it or should it go?

The Fever Code by James Dashner

I think that I’ll get rid of this because this is technically the 6th book in The Maze Runner series (it’s the second of prequel novels and the last one ever) and I haven’t read the first prequel novel yet so if I do feel like reading it in the future once I’ve read the first prequel, then I’ll add it back to my list.

Final Verdict: GO

The Kill Order by James Dashner

This is the first prequel novel and I do own it and I do want to read it sometime (it doesn’t have Thomas in it, but I heard The Fever Code does so…) Let me know if that’s true or not.

Final Verdict: KEEP

The Bane Chronicles by Cassandra Clare and some other people

There is no way in hell I’m letting this one go! Isn’t Malec’s first kiss supposed to be in here? STAY STAY STAY

Final Verdict: KEEP

The Final Empire by Brandon Sanderson

I’ve heard nothing but amazing things about this series and I’m slowly getting into high fantasy more and can we just talk about how beautiful that cover is? It’s gorgeous!

Final Verdict: KEEP

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens

I. Will. Read. These. Classics. Okay? I will! One day, I will and I will be happy and knowledgeable and I will be able to say that I read all the classics in my library. One day… but also, this edition is beautiful! It’s not the edition I have, but it’s beautiful nonetheless.

Final Verdict: KEEP

The Alchemyst by Michael Scott

My friend bought this for me because it’s about Nicholas Flamel and she’s like “ooh! Harry Potter!” and immediately thought of me. I haven’t read it yet (shame! I know!) I just haven’t had the urge to. I will one day because it does sound interesting.

Final Verdict: KEEP

Red’s Untold Tale by Wendy Toliver

You see, I used to be the biggest OUAT fan (so was my friend, the one I mentioned above, who also bought this book for me) but now I honestly don’t care for it. This book is beautiful but I’m not sure if I’ll read it or not… I really don’t know!
Final Verdict: HELP!

Angelfall by Susan Ee

THIS IS A POST-APOCALYPTIC BOOK ABOUT THE ANGELS OF THE APOCALYPSE COMING DOWN AND DESTROYING THE WORLD. Also, I got this book in a secondhand shop (with the sequel) in pristine edition!

Final Verdict: KEEP

Poison Study by Maria V. Snyder

Overall I’ve heard some amazing things about this series, but if I’m being honest, I’m just not interested in reading this anymore. It does sound interesting, but I really don’t feel like I’m missing out on anything by not reading it.

Final Verdict: GO

Alanna: The First Adventure by Tamora Pierce

I’ve heard that this is a wonderful, magical read but I really don’t find myself picking this book up anytime soon. If I do one day, then awesome, but I don’t see myself picking it up within the next few years.

Final Verdict: GO

Yay! I’m so happy with the books I got rid of! I feel so proud of myself because I know that I’ll never read those books and it’s so refreshing to get them off my TBR pile! Also, please help me decide with the OUAT book! I always struggle with books that I was given as a gift because I feel bad if I don’t read it.

Let me know if you’ve read any of these books as well as your thoughts on them! Thanks for reading!

  1. This is the first time I’ve heard of this meme. I think it’s a good idea! I do this just once a year, haha (I go through the entire TBR). This way might be more efficient. Reading this post made me think I should add Poison Study to my ‘maybe’ TBR, which is really just a way of avoiding making a decision on stay or go 😛

  2. I like your decisions all the way around. Never dump a classic. It is a classic for a reason. I actually was not a fan of The Maze Runner, but I will agree that The Kill Order was by far the best. Keep it! You wont regret it if you like the series.

  3. Out of all the Maze Runner books, The Kill Order was by far the best. It was really quite dark and a bit scary because of the perspective from which it was written and also just the things that went on.

I’m so glad you’re keeping The Final Empire, it’s AMAZING!

Hmm, I’m sad to see you’re letting Poison Study go. It’s really good. Especially the first book. It’s strange because when I first read it, I thought it was okay, but not amazing. But looking back on it, I’m just like THIS BOOK IS SO COOL, WHAT WAS WRONG WITH ME?

    1. I’m excited for The Kill Order now! The Final Empire is very high on my TBR I just don’t own it. Yeah, I’m sad to see Poison Study go as well but I just couldn’t really see myself reading it anytime soon :/

  4. I’ve read the Kill Order and it doesn’t have Thomas in it. But he is in the Fever Code. And about the OUAT book, if you aren’t that interested on reading it, I would just drop it off (; But that’s only my opinion (:

  5. I have seen the Once Upon a Time books but I don’t follow the show anymore…if you own it, then read it? But if it doesn’t matter anymore to you, I say, “Let it go.”
It’s hard with books we actually own, isn’t it?

    1. I do own it and it is a pretty book (the pages are black on the outside!) and it was a gift… I don’t really care for the show anymore so that’s why I’m so conflicted.
