T5W: Books That Would Make Good Video Games

It’s Wednesday! This means it’s time for Top 5 Wednesday, a weekly meme created by Lainey @ Ginger Reads Lainey and now hosted by Sam @ Thoughts on Tomes. You can check out and join the Goodreads group here

I am so excited about this week’s topic because it’s about video games! If you don’t know me personally you probably wouldn’t have guessed that I like video games, but I do. I don’t play them all that often (because if I did, nothing in my life would ever get done), but video games have a place in my heart forever and always. This topic is books that would make good video games, so this is such a wonderful topic! I can already think of a few so let’s get going! Oh! And also, I won’t be including books such as Harry Potter that already have video games (or at least video games I’m aware of).

The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins

I don’t know if this exists, but can we talk about how freaking awesome this would be? You could become a tribute and then go through training and then just try and survive The Hunger Games. It could even be called The Hunger Games: The Game, I can see it already.

The Maze Runner by James Dashner

These games would seriously be so much fun! Aren’t survival games always the most fun anyway? Just have them based on books/movies and it’ll just be that much more awesome. You could play as Thomas and it’d start off with him being lifted into The Glade and then you’d meet the Gladers, then you’d become a Runner and try and survive a night in the Maze, etc. It’d just be awesome!

The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare

This one would be a bit more complicated, but we’d have similar game play with this one and the other two, the characters just wouldn’t be stuck in a maze or anything. But we would play as Clary (of course, she’s the MC) and then fight demons, basically. There could also be different missions in the game such as rescuing Simon from vampires and whatnot.

Percy Jackson by Rick Riordon

This game could be played like Infamous. Or you could have training in the beginning of the game (after Percy finds out he’s a demi-god and goes to camp) so that you can learn the controls and game play itself and then go on missions, and there could be different stories throughout that game that follows the books! I think this could be a really cool game if done correctly.

A Song of Ice and Fire by George R. R. Martin

I can see this being more of a PC game or an RPG because there are a lot of character interactions and strategy in this book/game. I feel like there’s already a video game for this (or at least the show) but I’m not sure. Battle scenes would be chaos (as you can see above). It’d be a lot of fun, though!

So these were the books that I think would make good video games. Are there any books you think would make good video games? Any you think I missed? Let me know!

  1. Yes Percy Jackson would be amazing as a video game why haven’t they done that yet? But oh maybe for the best, they’d probably base it on the movies :’) Haven’t seen ASOIAF on any lists, but that’d make an awesome game. Great list :D!
