It’s Wednesday! This means it’s time for Top 5 Wednesday, a weekly meme created by Lainey @ Ginger Reads Lainey and now hosted by Sam @ Thoughts on Tomes. You can check out and join the Goodreads group here.
This week’s topic actually isn’t book-themed. Instead, I am supposed to list five of my current favorite things. I find this to be a very broad topic and it may be hard (because I’ll have to narrow down a lot of things…) but it’ll also be fun as well! Now, let’s get into it! And, as always, these aren’t organized in any specific way by preference or anything.
I could just say TV for this one, but I wanted to mention a specific show that I’ve been watching recently, and loving. That show is Daredevil on Netflix. I started watching this show a little bit after the first season was released, so I was pretty early to the party on this one (I’m usually late when it comes to watching TV shows because I like to binge them). I took a very long break before watching season 2. I think this is mainly due to having to wait for season 2 to release, and then kind of forgetting that it was there for me to watch. I watched the first episode and, although I really enjoyed it, I never continued on with season 2. Flash-forward a few months later and I’m two episodes away from being done with season 2. A lot of people have said things like “Season 2 isn’t nearly as good as season 1” or stuff like that, but I have really loved season 2. There is just so many great fight scenes, raw acting, and grittiness that puts it border-line The Walking Dead. It’s a wonderful show and I will forever recommend it to people (Jessica Jones, who?)
Cooking or baking of any kind, I do with my sister. We make dinner every night and only recently in the last week, we’ve found healthy (and easy) dinner recipes online and then went to the store and bought those ingredients. Neither one of us eat sugar during the week days, so on the weekend we’ve decided to make a desert (from my Harry Potter cookbook) as a treat for ourselves. Last weekend we made Pumpkin Pasties, and let me just say that they were amazing! You can find a recipe for them here. It’s not the same recipe we used, but I bet it’ll be great nonetheless. This upcoming weekend we’re making Apple Tarts!
Although I haven’t purchased much from Etsy (aside from Christmas last year, when I went crazy buying gifts for everybody), but I freaking love that place! If Etsy was a physical store, I would get lost in there for hours, never to be seen again. My favorite thing on Etsy right now would probably have to be those cute little magnetic bookmarks in the shape of different things (usually book characters). They’re just so adorable and I love them so much! One day I’ll have to treat myself and buy one or two of them. I actually don’t think I’ve ever bought something on Etsy for myself. But I certainly have a long list of favorites on there. It also makes me want to start making stuff myself. Me and my sister have actually started thinking of buying a candle-making kit and try out candle-making.
2. Shape of You by Ed Sheeran
Disclaimer: I haven’t seen the music video yet! I’m not one to watch music videos often, but I love the song! I don’t listen to music all that often, mainly because I think that 90% of music these days is crap (my own personal opinion, I didn’t say that all music these days is crap, just a majority of it). And the only singer/songwriter that I actually like as both a person and a singer/songwriter is Ed Sheeran. I used to be a fan of Taylor Swift, but that was before she became a pop diva (again, my own personal opinion). That put aside, I like every song that Ed Sheeran puts out and this song is no exception. When all music these days sounds the same, it’s so refreshing to hear his music because both his voice and his songs are unique and they actually mean something. I feel like a large chunk of songs these days are songs made for clubs and partying and just… I don’t know, they don’t seem like they have a deeper meaning or anything like that.
So I’m not a person who watches all of the big YouTubers or anything. I strictly stick with Dan and Phil and BookTube. But sometimes, I get lost on YouTube and find myself watching Top 10 List videos for an hour or so, deep into the night. We’ve all done this at least once, don’t you think? You see an interesting thumbnail in your recommended section and you can’t help but click it because you are slightly interested, but also, you just want the thumbnail to stop taunting you. Anyway, the past few months I have been watching more YouTube than TV, and I’ve been watching more than I do read. But, I’ve also started to watch less YouTube and TV, and focused more of my attention to reading the past week or so. I think this is due to getting back into watching BookTube videos because I’m not sure about y’all, but watching others talk about the books they’ve read motivates me to pick up a book and read it. Also, if you don’t already know, I made my own BookTube channel, that you can check out here.
So this was my Top 5 Wednesday post for this week. I had a really fun time compiling a list of stuff to put here, and I hope y’all enjoyed it! What are some of your current favorite non-bookish things? Let me know in the comments! And if you participated in this week’s T5W, please feel free to leave a link to your post in the comments as well. I would love to check out your posts!
