T5W: Favorite Non-Canon Ships

As you should all know, I am a part of Top 5 Wednesday, a Goodreads group where book bloggers and booktubers all come together to spread their bookish opinions by answering weekly topics. This group was formed by Lainey @ Gingerreadslainey and is currently hosted by Sam @ Thoughtsontomes.

This week’s topic is favorite non-canon ships. If you don’t speak fangirl, that means favorite fictional pairings that haven’t become real in the book/TV show/Movie/etc. I will compile a list of only my top 5 of my non-canon ships from books, because then it would be too long if I added the ones from TV shows and movies.

Disclaimer: Just because I ship two people who aren’t canon doesn’t mean that I don’t like the ship those characters are actually a part of, canonically. Now that I’ve covered the intro, let’s get started.

5. Dramione- Draco/Hermione: Harry Potter Series

Yes, I understand that they hate each other, but isn’t that how some of literature’s best couples start out? I’m not saying that they are my OTP (one true pairing), but they look good together and Hermione would make him a better person. I of course love Ron and Hermione together more, but I like the idea of Draco being with somebody as amazing as Hermione, because all of his life, he’s been under the control of his parents, and if he were to be with Hermione, she could make him happy. I am overall, a big Draco fan, and a big believer that he is just misunderstood. And her being a muggle-born is just another reason why it would be great, since his family hates muggle-borns, because then he would really be breaking away from the shackles he has been in his entire life.

4. Newtmas- Newt/Thomas: The Maze Runner Series

In a book series where 98% of the characters are guys, there are bound to be a few m/m ships. I never liked Teresa and Brenda kind of just weaseled her way into Thomas’ life. Newt, however, has been with Thomas since he arrived in the maze, guiding him through the thick and thin. Some may call it friendship, and some may call it something more, but all I know is that Newt would sacrifice his life for Thomas in a heartbeat, and I can’t help but ship them.

3. Rafenzo- Raffaele/Enzo: The Young Elites

I’m not sure if this is a real ship or not, but there is definitely evidence supporting my shipping. I’m not saying that Enzo loves Raffaele in a romantic way, nor am I saying Raffaele does, but Raffaele did canonically say “I loved him too.” I see that as evidence that Raffaele sees Enzo in that way, even if Enzo doesn’t. There really isn’t any way this ship could sail because of how The Young Elites ended, unless something happens in the other two books. We’ll see.

2. Nuna- Neville/Luna: Harry Potter Series

They would have been so cute together, I mean really. They’re both outcasts and quirky characters. I understand why Rowling didn’t make them end up together. Not every couple that works well together end up marrying each other and staying together for the rest of their lives. I believe that even though they never became a true couple (though I do like to think that they dated for a while, or at least for the seventh year), they still remain friends and have dinner parties at each other’s houses, babysit each other’s kids, etc. They’re both kind, well-rounded characters and I know that neither one of them would be bitter over not ending up together in the end.

And now, for my number 1 spot *drum roll*….

1. Scorbus- Scorpius/Albus: Harry Potter and the Cursed Child

I think we are all bitter over this one. Or at least I am, but I ease my bitterness by telling myself that the Albus/Scorpius/Rose relationship is much like the Ginny/Harry/Cho relationship. Let me explain why. Cho was a schoolgirl crush for Harry, his first crush, really, and she didn’t work out for him, but that’s fine, because going through what he went through with Cho made him realize he had feelings for Ginny, his real true love. I’m thinking the same thing goes for Scorpius and Rose. Towards the end of The Cursed Child, Scorpius decides to ask out Rose, even though throughout the entire book there has been no evidence whatsoever that supports the claim that Scorpius likes Rose. I thought this was really strange, especially since he shows a lot more affection towards Albus. Most people will probably say, “Well that’s just because they’re best friends!” That could be true, but weren’t Hermione and Ron also friends (for 7 years, might I add), before they finally realized their feelings for each other? See, I’m not very bitter over the outcomes of Scorbus in The Cursed Child since I have a theory Rowling designed their relationship like the Ginny/Harry/Cho one. And their commitment and obvious love for each other is just heartwarming.

What are your opinions on this post and my choices? What are some of your favorite non-canon ships? Are you part of T5W as well and would like me to check out your post? If so, leave a comment below expressing your opinions and a link to your post!

  2. I totally forgot about Scorpius/Albus! I really don’t like Scorpius/Rose, I just don’t like it. She was so judging towards him at the beginning and Albus was the only one who became Scorpius’ friends.

Yeah I don’t get why people ship Scorpius/Rose because there was absolutely no evidence that they liked each other the entire book/play! I overall didn’t really like Rose as a character. She got all of her mother and father’s bad qualities.

      • I agree! And I absolutely didn’t like the way she treated Scorpius, he is my favorite character from the Cursed Child. She judged him because of the rumors she had heard, she had no nice words for him, etc.
